Bobo Mask – Burkina Faso

The Bobo are an ethnic group living in Burkina Faso although the area occupied by the Bobo extends north into Mali.

Masks symbolize protective spirits who purify the land for successful planting and harvesting their rituals comfort the dead and lead them to the after world, using the forms of animals with costumes of natural fibers and wooden boards covered with geometric patterns.
