Antique Huge African Currency – Coilled Manilla – YORUBA – Nigeria
Early 20° century. Diameter cm. 30,5 (12.01″). kg 3,43 (7.56 lb)
These heavy, octangular bronze collar were worn by women and also used as currency by other near-by ethnic groups. Their shape originates from manillas that the Portuguese exported to this area of Africa in the 16° century.
