Among the Toussian of Burkina Faso, copper alloy figures and bracelets are associated with the divination and are linked to the powers of bush spirits. The “python bracelets” serves as a messenger between the spirits and the diviner. The python bracelets are rarely worn; rather they are displayed during divination sessions.
The Toussian of Burkina Faso, numbering 40,000, are part of the Gur people cluster within the Sub-Saharan African affinity bloc.
A large majority of the Toussian follow their traditional animistic beliefs.
