Beautiful Tuareg Hand of Fatima – KHOMISSAR – Algeria

Khomissar (low‑silver alloy) mounted on a multi‑layered leather backing, featuring a beautiful cord made from numerous woven cotton threads.

The Khomissar measures 11.3 cm (4.6 in) in height and 9.5 cm (3.4 in) in width, with a total weight of 78.9 g (2.78 oz).

The Tuareg Khomissar represents a geometrically stylized interpretation of the Hand of Fatima (Hamsa), traditionally worn as a protective amulet and a symbol of blessing and good fortune throughout North Africa and the Sahara.

This particular Khomissar was conceived as a talisman associated with pregnancy protection and fertility. The central triangular motif is commonly interpreted as a reference to Tanit, a Berber–Phoenician goddess linked to fertility and the generative forces of nature, while the nine small pyramidal elements at the base of the triangle are traditionally understood as symbolizing the nine lunar months of human gestation.
