Baule maternity figures represent fertility, motherhood, and ancestral continuity. Known as waka sran (“person of wood”), they are often used by diviners as spiritual tools to communicate with bush spirits (asye usu), seek healing, or resolve community issues.
These sculptures are admired for their refined aesthetics. Beyond their ritual use, Baule maternity figures embody cultural ideals of beauty, strength, and maternal wisdom.
