Old Large Mandingo Sword – Highly Ornate Leather Scabbard /Talisman – Mauritania

Mid 20th century. Beautiful blade in wrought iron, leather and aluminum finishes. Cm. 77,0 in lenght (30.31″). The blade is cm. 55,0 (21.65″).

An authentic sword of the Mandingo (or Mandinka) people of West Africa. The scabbard and handle of this sword require attention for the piece to live up to its full potential. The sword also has a talisman which most likely contains a Surah from the Quran inside.

The Mandingo ethnicity has a rich history that reaches even the shores of North America and the Caribbean.
