Antique North African Thrust Dagger – Tunisia or Eastern Algeria – 19th Century
150,00€
Iron, animal horn. Overall length: 34 cm (13.4 in). Blade length: approximately 22 cm (8.7 in). Weight: 329.9 g (11.6 oz)
Thrust dagger of North African origin, likely from the Maghreb region (Tunisia or Eastern Algeria), dating to the late 19th.
Forged entirely of iron, the weapon features a rigid diamond-section blade designed primarily for thrusting rather than cutting. This blade geometry provides exceptional strength and penetrating capability. The forged iron guard has distinctive upturned quillons, while the curved pistol-grip hilt is fitted with animal horn scales secured by metal pins.
The overall form is characteristic of traditional North African fighting daggers intended for close combat. The combination of the diamond-section blade, forged crossguard, and horn grip suggests a practical and functional weapon rather than a ceremonial example.
Antique condition with age-related wear, oxidation, and surface corrosion to the iron. The horn grip exhibits expected wear and minor losses consistent with age and use.
