Fine Tribally Used Tuareg Leather Bag – Niger

Leather and wool. Beautiful Tuareg geometric designs. The bag measures approximately 15.5 cm in height × 17.5 cm in width (6.10 × 6.89 in). Including the fringes, the overall height is approximately 50.5 cm (19.88 in).

The Tuareg people inhabit a vast region spanning much of the central and western Sahara and the north-central Sahel. They are likely descended from the ancient Libyan populations of the Garamantian kingdom, described by Herodotus. Traditionally nomadic, the Tuareg managed the trans-Saharan caravan trade for over two millennia, connecting major cities along the southern edge of the Sahara with the Mediterranean coast through a network of five principal desert routes.
