African “Kpinga” Throwing Knife – Zande Tribe – DR Congo

Early to mid 20th century. The piece is cm. 45,0 high  x cm. 40,0 width (17.71″ x 15.74″); gr. 406,2 (14.32 oz.). The cord has been added in recent times. A Z-shaped throwing knife. Forged by expert Zande blacksmiths, the knives not only served as weapons, they also served as bride price. A bridegroom would have presented 40 blades to the father of the bride.
