Banna Earrings – Omo Valley, Southern Ethiopia

Plastic, glass beads. Cm. 3,8 width x cm. 2,5 high (1.50″ x 0.98″). Grams 9,5 (0.34 oz).

The Banna live in the mountainous region between the river Omo and the river Woito. The Banna are basically pastoralists (cattle, sheep and goats). Most Banna are semi-nomadic. They also grow sorghum, sesame and maize, but yields are meager and insufficient. The wild honey is the only well produced in excess: the honey gives to the Banna a minimum amount of money necessary for purchase of essential goods.

The Banna have deep affinity with the Hamar, so they can be considered a single entity: the cultural heritage, political organization and strategies of economic survival are practically the same.

Piece directly collected in Omo Valley. We guarantee that this item has been tribally used.
