Berber Headband – Ait Herbil Tribe – Western Anti-Atlas Mountains, South Morocco

Early to mid 20th Century. Glass beads, metal coins 1/2 Dirham Morocco – AH 1320 (1902). The decorated part of the headband is cm. 22,0 long x cm. 4,0 high (8.66″ x 1.57″). Gr. 69,5 (2.45 oz.). The Imazighen (singular Amazigh) also known as the Berbers are among the original peoples of North Africa. Their myths, legends and history span 9,000 years, back to the Proto-Mediterraneans. They have achieved unity by keeping up their unique language and culture which are, like their land, both African and Mediterranean.
