Berber Rug – Azilal, High Atlas Mountains, Morocco

Early to mid 20th century. Wool. Approximately cm. 165,0 x 44,5 (5.41 x 1.46 Feet).

Only performed by women of this region, Azilal rugs are made from virgin raw wool by alternating composed patterns of one single knotted line and one or two woven lines, according to a cultural ritual that mothers are passing down to daughters for generations.

Azilal rugs feature great creativity in terms of design; they combine irregular and abstract patterns with numerous Berbers symbols like this one.

The rug has been professionally washed. Excellent conditions. Beautiful color.
