500,00

Leather and wood. Height: 81.3 cm (32.0″). Width: 34.7 cm (13.66″)

Remarkable elongated shield of characteristic Turkana form, constructed from very thick animal hide, possibly elephant hide, stretched and shaped over a rigid internal structure. The surface shows a deep, naturally developed patina and wear consistent with prolonged use.

The shield retains its original central wooden grip, secured to the reverse with an exceptionally fine and dense braided leather binding, demonstrating high technical skill and durability.

The elongated hourglass profile, reinforced central spine, and substantial leather thickness are typical of prestige and functional shields produced by Turkana warriors.

Shields of this type served both defensive and symbolic functions, reflecting status, identity, and martial tradition within Turkana society. Its size, proportions, and excellent construction make this a particularly strong and visually striking example.
